Children’s Penny Drive

The time is fast approaching when we will be celebrating the opening of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church. When we began our fund raising campaign, we had all the children up through 6th grade participate in a Penny Drive. They collected empty Gatorade bottles and filled them with loose change. After only a month and a half, the children collected over $600! Way to go kids! They did a fantastic job!

After talking with Fr. Joe, we came up with a few ideas as how to put this money to good use for the children. Here is a list of possible ideas:

  • The children could buy bricks and pave the way to our front doors.
  • They could purchase a statue or bench for outside our church.
  • They could purchase books, movies, puzzles or other church-related materials that would be available for the children to check out.
  • They could purchase ceiling tiles for the preschool room and paint various Bible themes on them.

It is exciting to watch the enthusiasm of our young children. They are the future of our parish. It is great that they are so willing to be such a big part of our church family. Knowing that they were a part of building our church will certainly make a lasting impression on our children.

We welcome any other thoughts or suggestions you might have for the use of our children’s fund raising dollars. If your children have not turned in their change yet, they can still turn it in to the Parish Office.
